My Goals and Development Ideas for Kaskinen

This list contains key initiatives I aim to promote for the development of Kaskinen. These ideas have been shaped in collaboration with local residents, and anyone is welcome to publicly state their participation in discussions or brainstorming with me. The list will be updated as needed, but I will keep it concise and clear.

1. Services for the Elderly – Dignified Aging in Kaskinen

Although healthcare services are managed by the wellbeing services counties, the municipality's role is to support the well-being and quality of life of the elderly. My goal is to develop services that enable a safe and active old age.

  • Developing local services: Cooperation with the wellbeing services county and municipal support services, such as senior advisory services, physical activity programs, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Supporting home living: Accessible solutions, senior housing, home care support services, and technological aids.
  • Bringing services closer: Mobile services, such as foot care and barber services, as well as strengthening NGO and volunteer activities.
  • Influencing the wellbeing services county: The municipality's voice must be heard to ensure that services remain accessible and of high quality.
  • Preventive well-being measures: Improving opportunities for physical activity, supporting mental health services, and enhancing community cohesion.

2. Repurposing Vacant Municipal Properties – New Opportunities for Kaskinen

The city can make better use of existing buildings and create spaces that support entrepreneurship, community engagement, and well-being.

The Future of Mariakoti

  • Essential renovations – The purpose of the premises must be carefully considered.
  • Potential private or foundation-based management to enhance flexibility and service offerings.
  • A multi-purpose facility combining entrepreneurship and senior services – a space where various services support each other.

Possible Services at Mariakoti

  • Senior sauna and bathing services (e.g., provided by a private entrepreneur).
  • Barber and foot care services – easy access for seniors.
  • Gym for seniors with an instructor – closer than the sports hall, making it more accessible.
  • Enhanced sauna service and an active-use fireplace room.
  • Dining options for seniors living at home – fostering community spirit while ensuring nutritious meals.
  • Café and meeting place – not only for seniors but for all residents.
  • Technology guidance for seniors – assistance with banking, smartphones, and digital services.
  • Pop-up spaces – short-term sales and exhibitions, such as seasonal products or new entrepreneurs.

Other Considerations

  • Services located near the pharmacy improve accessibility.
  • Transportation services are crucial for service accessibility.
  • Multi-purpose spaces can accommodate various small businesses – financially sensible for the city and beneficial for service users.

3. A Vibrant and Attractive Kaskinen

Kaskinen needs new strategies to attract residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors. The city’s development must combine environmental sustainability, economic viability, and service accessibility.

  • Supporting and developing entrepreneurship – new opportunities for businesses, preserving local services.
  • Investing in the green transition – protecting Kaskinen’s natural environment and fostering sustainable economic growth are not mutually exclusive.
  • Improving transportation and accessibility – better transport services, connections, and low-threshold mobility options.
  • Prioritizing residents' well-being – safety, community engagement, and a vibrant environment contribute to the quality of life for all Kaskinen residents.

Zoning and Its Benefits

Zoning is one of the municipality’s most powerful tools to create conditions for growth, housing availability, and economic activity.

  • Balanced development: Zoning ensures that housing, businesses, and environmental conservation support each other.
  • Planning new business areas: Zoning can allocate spaces for new entrepreneurs and companies, bringing jobs and tax revenue to Kaskinen.
  • Diverse residential areas: Zoning can accommodate different housing needs, including detached houses, row houses, and senior housing.
  • Livability and vitality: Well-planned zoning enhances the city’s attractiveness and ensures that services are easily accessible.
  • Ecological and sustainable development: Zoning can guide construction in a way that supports biodiversity and sustainability.

4. Citizen Participation and Open Governance

  • Encouraging citizen participation in decision-making – Surveys, public hearings, and digital channels where residents can express their opinions.
  • Transparent communication on decision-making – Clear and understandable communication about municipal decisions so that residents remain informed.
  • Easy access to decision-makers – Residents should have low-threshold opportunities to provide feedback and engage in discussions with municipal leaders.
